Spotlight on Barbara Willingham

Barbara Willingham

 Mountain Delivery

Barbara Willingham is a lifelong resident of Southeastern Kentucky, having been born in Harlan County, and spending her childhood in rural Laurel County. For several years after high school, Barbara worked in factories while she raised her son, Darren. Barbara was a dedicated mother, and creating visual art was not a priority then. However, Barbara usually found time to draw and paint as a means of relaxation and creative expression.
In 1985, Barbara began her pursuit of a formal art education when she enrolled at Cumberland College (University of the Cumberlands) in Williamsburg, Kentucky. She earned her Master of Art-English Education degree and began teaching art in 1990 for Corbin Independent Schools. After 19 years, Barbara retired from teaching and currently devotes her time to painting and managing her own gallery situated beside her home in London, Kentucky.

Barbara draws and paints in a realistic style that often depicts the simple and quaint way of live in which she grew up. She paints subjects which inspire or connect to her personally, such as a memorable everyday life event, an architectural treasure, or a beautiful landscape. Barbara's mountain heritage is a defining factor that is present in all of her works.
From her original oil and watercolor paintings, Barbara produces prints and note cards to supply her own gallery and other visual art markets. Her works hang in numerous private and corporate collections. The demand for Barbara's art by collectors and art enthusiasts continues to increase
locally and abroad.
